"Singin' in the Rain", in the rain

The rain moved in yesterday afternoon, and by the time I got off work, it was coming down heavily. I called C* to see if she was still planning on going. She said yes, but that mom was moaning that she didn't know if she really wanted to go now.

So I got to mom's around 7:00. They had stopped at Subway for sandwichs. So I ate half my mostly veggie sub. (Theirs were completely veggie, but I said I like my meat, so they put a slice or two of turkey on it.) Then headed out to Starlight for the show.

It rained on us all the way there and was still showering lightly as we made our way to the seats. The show started at 8:30. Thankfully, it stopped raining about 15 minutes into the first act.

The show itself wasn't bad, although having grown up seeing Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds so many times, this just wasn't the same. It was funny, the actor playing R. F. Simpson, was a short older man, and when he talked, he sounded exactly like Billy Barty. I kept thinking, "I didn't know he was in this, I thought he died." At intermission, I mentioned it to my sister. The very first scene after intermission opened with Simpson talking and we both just cracked up. I'm sure people wondered what was wrong with us. She hit me in the arm and said now she'd think of that through the rest of the show. And the actress playing Lina Lamont sounded more like Leslie Ann Warren playing Norma Cassady in "Victor, Victoria".

Anyway, it was an ok evening. The audience was mostly post-retirement age and they all just loved it. There were a few cute guys running around, but....

I got home and to bed about 1:00, so today has been another day of struggling to stay awake.

With the rain did come cooler weather. Today is only in the 70's which is a nice relief from the upper 90's and 100's we've had the last week.
